As autumn leaves change and the temperature starts to drop, there’s no better time to get out and explore the South End neighborhood! The best day to plan your adventure: the monthly South End Gallery Crawl on Friday, October 6th. With art at ten South End galleries and art destinations and live music along the way, this is month’s crawl is one you won’t want to miss. In between galleries, you’ll find guitarist Larkin Dodgen at the Trolley Powerhouse, saxophone player Harvey Cummings at the Kingston Plaza, a caricature artist doing free drawings and a selection of autumn food from Cheesecake Carousel. See what each gallery has planned below.
Studio Cellar – 1800 Camden Rd., Suite 106
Start the weekend early with Studio Cellar’s freestyle painting starting at 12:00 pm and going until 11:00 pm! If freestyle isn’t your thing, join the instructed class starting at 7:30 pm or check out the art from resident artists Gabrielle Wolfe, Sloane Siobhan and Heidi Nesbit.
Coffey & Thompson Art Gallery – 1200 Graham St.
Coffey & Thompson will present “Works on Paper” featuring work by artists Bre Barnett Crowell, Lucy Warlick, Mark Anthony Gucciardi and Maneula Strada.
South End Kitchens – 1500 South Blvd., #101A
South End Kitchens has teamed up with Coffey + Thompson Gallery to feature 12 original pieces by artist Tom Cowsert. Cowsert is a former Charlotte banker who threw his tie out the window (literally) and moved to Spain, pursuing art along the way.
Charlotte Art League – 1517 Camden Rd.
Charlotte Art League will host its Fall Into Art juried show from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. Stop by at 7:30 pm to find out who wins the awards for the show.
Ciel Gallery – 128 E Park Ave.
The opening reception for Ciel’s fall national juried exhibition “I Spy” will be held from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. The exhibition features artwork from across the country, giving a personal glimpse into how artists see and interpret the world. The family-friendly show runs until October 28th.
Hidell Brooks Gallery – 1910 South Blvd #130
Hidell Brooks Gallery will host the opening reception to its new show featuring artists Sarah Helser and Charlie Hanavich. Both artists will be at the show from 6:00 – 8:00 pm to discuss their work.
Hodges Taylor Art Consultancy – 118 E Kingston Ave., #16
Hodges Taylor is showing Kit Reuther’s “Casual Geometry” from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. The show features paintings and sculptures that are described as a “playful take on the confines of geometry.”
Magnolia Emporium – 307 Lincoln St.
Magnolia Emporium will be open from 6:00 – 9:00 pm and will feature work from multi-media artist Sam Guzzie. Guzzie has a passion for community arts and her work can be seen on the exterior of Magnolia Emporium, on Solstice in NODA and at the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte.
C3 Lab – 2525 Distribution St.
The artists of C3Lab have come together for INTERSECTION, an exhibit showcasing the artists’ variety of styles and methods that intersect through the common thread of their love of art. The opening reception will take place from 7:00 – 10:00 pm and the exhibit will run through October 25th. The art isn’t only inside C3 Lab – check out the exterior of the building to see the newest edition of South End Verses, a project that brings together a local writer and a local artist for a mural on the Remount Road side of C3 Lab.
