December Gallery Crawl

A favorite movie, a particular song, a family tradition – everyone has something that makes them feel festive this time of year. With twinkling lights, decorated storefront windows, great gifts, and even tacky sweaters, the December South End Gallery Crawl has everything you need to get in the holiday spirit! Make plans to stop by participating galleries and art destinations on Friday, December 1st to see new exhibitions, meet local artists and mingle with other members of the Charlotte art community. This free, family-friendly event is open to any one who would like to join! 

 

Charlotte Art League – 1517 Camden Rd.

From 6:00 – 9:00, Charlotte Art League will be hosting their last show at their current location with small works of art for holiday gifts, a silent auction from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and a live auction at 7:30 pm. Proceeds from the auctions will benefit their new location that has not yet been announced.

 

North Tryon Street Rail Yard Redevelopment Project by the UNCC Master of Urban Design Studio at the Charlotte Powerhouse – 1507 Camden Rd.

Students from UNCC’s Master of Urban Design Studio program will be showcasing their development proposals for the rail yards on North Tryon Street. The showcase will be open from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm with a party afterwards until 8:00 pm and will feature proposals for better livability in residential areas, a more pedestrian-oriented North Tryon Street, and space for retail, office, educational and hotel space.

 

 

Studio Cellar – 1800 Camden Rd., Suite 106

Studio Cellar will be open from noon until 11:00 pm for freestyle painting. They’ll also have a class starting at 7:30 pm where you can try your own hand at painting a cityscape. 

 

 

 

Elder Gallery of Contemporary Art – 1520 South Tryon St. 

Along with exception glasswork, Elder Gallery will have new sculptures from Edward Belbusti and smaller giftable artworks on display from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. 

 

 

 

South End Kitchens – 1500 South Blvd., #101A

South End Kitchens will be showing a new artwork installation of photography from Coffey & Thompson Art Gallery. Stop by from 5:00 – 8:00 pm to see the new work by Julie Corder and Elise Jokell. 

 

 

 

 

Shed Brand Studios – 216 Iverson Way

Stained glass creator Shed Brand Studios will be open from 5:30 – 9:00 pm to show work from potter Ellie Knight and glass artist Natalie Bork. 

 

 

 

Ciel Gallery – 128 E Park Ave.

Ciel Gallery is hosting a “Small Works” exhibition during the holiday season, focusing on great gifts. Stop by from 6:00 – 9:00 pm to see their New York-style window displays (including a beautiful angel made from paper and coffee filters!) and bask in the holiday spirit. 

 

 

 

Dilworth Artisan Station – 118 E Kingston Ave.

From 6:00 – 9:00 pm, Dilworth Artisan Station will host their annual holiday open house showcasing the work of over 25 local artists whose studios are in the old factory building. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to explore the three floors of artist studios right in the heart of South End and meet all of the artists behind the exceptional work. 

 

Hidell Brooks Gallery – 1910 South Blvd #130

Hidell Brooks is hosting Tony Hernandez’s “Requiem of Mind and Wonder” until December 22nd and will be open from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Hernandez’s work focuses on the powerlessness and imagination of children faced with difficult situations and he brings these emotions to life using encaustic painting on handmade birch wood panels. 

 

 

 

Hodges Taylor Art Consultancy – 118 E Kingston Ave., #16

As part of Dilworth Artisan Station’s Annual Holiday Open House, Hodges Taylor Art Consultancy will be open from 6:00 – 9:00 pm hosting “SILHOUETTE: Lynn Saville + Ahmad Sabha”, an exhibit using photography, ceramics, and metal sculptures to examine city spaces. 

 

 

Magnolia Emporium – 307 Lincoln St.

From 6:00 – 9:00 pm, Magnolia Emporium will feature work from Charlotte artist Andrea Guice Engelhardt, who began her dream career as an artist after a thirty year hiatus from art. Engelhardt’s colorful work includes impressionistic, abstract and multimedia work.  

 

 

C3Lab  – 2525 Distribution St.

C3Lab is celebrating the release of Micah Cash’s first book, “Dangerous Waters: A Photo Essay on the Tennessee Valley Authority”, a photo series documenting the physical and social ramifications of Tennessee Valley Authority’s hydroelectric dams. The exhibit will be open from 7:00 – 10:00 pm and will feature live music by The Witness Marks and Post-Timey String Band starting around 9:00 pm.
