Five Reasons Front Porch Sunday is the Perfect Addition to Your StaycationMay 29, 2018 9:03 pm
When summer travel is in full swing and you’re tired of living out of a suitcase, going out of town can start to feel more like work than vacation. Enter the staycation: a vacation at home that gives you the perfect chance to explore and enjoy the city you call home. With local makers, delicious food and free entertainment, you’ll want to add Front Porch Sundays to your itinerary. Front Porch Sundays are free makers markets that take place the first Sunday of each month at The Porch of Shook Kelley, just off of the Rail Trail near Tremont Avenue. From 11 am to 4 pm you’ll find handmade goods, delicious food, and more. Here’s what to expect at Front Porch Sunday:
Each Front Porch Sunday has a handful of delicious food trucks to grab lunch or dinner along with plenty of seating for places to hang out while you eat. Depending on what time you get there, Crane Coffee will be serving up caffeinated beverages and Sycamore Brewing will have its most popular beers on tap.
Between birthdays, weddings, and babies, odds are you’re constantly looking for a gift for someone. Front Porch Sundays brings together local makers who specialize in everything from jewelry to sports tees to Bloody Mary mix, making it the perfect place to find a very Charlotte gift.
Pull up a bright orange Adirondack chair, sit back, and enjoy the porch with live music throughout the event. The band changes each time but each Front Porch Sunday you can expect a local artist to take the stage.
Furry Friends Are Welcome
Since Front Porch Sundays are an outdoor event, dogs are welcome to join in the fun. There are even vendors that sell items specifically for pups. If you don’t have a dog (or are looking for another!), SPCA brings adoptable puppies to each Front Porch Sunday for them to play and possibly meet their new family.
Parking can be a pain. Luckily, the Porch at Shook Kelley is right on the Rail Trail, making it easy to walk, bike, or take the Light Rail to each Front Porch Sunday. If you’re having trouble finding it, the address is 2151 Hawkins Street.
