New year, new art! Start 2018 off on a high note with the January South End Gallery Crawl on Friday, January 5th. Eight galleries and art destinations throughout the neighborhood will stay open late to welcome visitors of all ages to engage in the local art scene and some of the artists will be at the exhibitions to discuss their work. The best part? It’s free! Check out what each spot has planned below.

Studio Cellar – 1800 Camden Rd., Suite 106

Along with a class and options for free painting, Studio Cellar will be showcasing work from  Charlotte artist Sloane Siobhan.

Elder Gallery of Contemporary Art – 1520 South Tryon St. 

Elder Gallery of Contemporary Art’s new show will celebrate Pantone’s 2018 Color of the Year Ultra Violet. See the colorful works between 5:00 – 7:00 pm.

 

 

Shed Brand Studios – 216 Iverson Way 

Shed Brand Studios will have work from featured artist Ellie Knight as well as glass artist Natalie Bork.

Ciel Gallery – 128 E Park Ave.

Animal House, Ciel Gallery’s new national juried art exhibition, will showcase art inspired by animals. Stop by the opening reception from 6:00 – 9:00 pm to see works celebrating critters and creatures in both literal and imaginative ways.

 

 

 

Hidell Brooks Gallery – 1910 South Blvd #130 

Hidell Brooks Gallery will host the opening reception of its new exhibition featuring sculptures from Johan Hagaman and paintings from Jenny Nelson. Both artists will be at the reception for the show, which will run through February 24th.

Hodges Taylor Art Consultancy – 118 E Kingston Ave., #16

Hodges Taylor Art Consultancy is continuing its SILHOUETTE: Lynn Saville + Ahmad Sabha show into the new year. The exhibition dissects urban spaces using photography, ceramics and metal sculptures.

 

Magnolia Emporium – 307 Lincoln St. 

Magnolia Emporium will feature work from Brazilian artist Tati Soares. Along with work from the featured artist, be sure to check out the new murals in Rivafinoli Passage next to Magnolia Emporium.

C3Lab  – 2525 Distribution St.

C3Lab will host the opening reception for Textures, an exhibition celebrating the diversity of fiber and textile creatives living in Charlotte. The exhibition was created in collaboration with CLTextile, a group of educators and makers brought together by their passion for art.
