November First Friday Gallery CrawlOctober 29, 2019 3:42 pm
Artists innovate. The nature of the artist’s mind is to see differently and translate their unique view for the world. For example, Laura Sanders, showing at Hidell Brooks, describes her paintings as “the human body, defined and distorted by sun, water, firelight and the green leafy light of the forest, coexist[ing] with the dazzle of manmade materials.” SouthEnd ARTS painter Noah Hartley presents his subjects on canvases of nontraditional shape. The illustrators on exhibit at C3Lab this month were challenged to interpret a different word each day using ink for InktoberCLT. And on November 1st, you can explore these perspectives and many others during the First Friday Gallery Crawl in South End.
Nine galleries, studios and design showrooms will stay open late to showcase special receptions, live painting and music, and fine art; plus, the ever-popular Nebel’s Alley Night Market enlivens the Design Center with local shopping, caricatures, live jazz and more (including a fun fall activity for kiddos with Craft Mama). Use the list and map below to plan your night.

Karen Saks (2500 Distribution St.)
6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Painter Mary Zio is the featured artist at Karen Saks this month. Describing her take on abstract expressionism, she says “Abstract demands that [you] stop, and look at the artwork in an unbiased fashion, forgetting any preconceived notions of what it may be, and accept it for what it is.”
Gallery C3 at C3Lab (2525 Distribution St.)
7:00 pm – 10:00 pm
InktoberCLT is an interactive project throughout the month of October whereby Charlotte-based writers, illustrators, and other creatives interpreted a different word each day (prompted by the national initiative led by Jake Parker) using ink and resulting in witty and diverse responses. The opening reception for the finished works at C3Lab will include a “live” drawing competition with door prizes provided by Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff.
